HTML Countdown Timers

Countdown timers can be really fun. It can highlight and bring attention to specific days or events and it can help your visitor have a more better experience.

There are many options. In this post we're looking at HTML countdown timers that you can add on your Strikingly site. With Strikingly you need only html which you can embed using the 'App Store & HTML' Section. See steps below.

Countdown Timer Options

Let's look at some options and then I'll go over how you can get one added. These timers are all free.

Tickcounter is a great option for maximum impact. It has a big, responsive display so it looks appropriate on any device. There's lots of customisation options too. Very easy to use and easy to setup. No mess or fuss.

This company has loads of plugins to add additional functionality using HTML to a website. Their countdown timer is just one of them. It's easy to customise and most features are free. You will need an account, however (which is free), to get the embed code. Their standard fonts and features are nice and will look good on many websites.

If you're looking for something smaller and neat, but still very nice, then you'll be interested in CountingDownTo. No account required and it's free if you don't mind the watermark (image on right below). To get it without the watermark, yes, you have to pay. Very easy to customise and setup.

MailTimers has a good selection of timers that are neat and customisable to your brand with both free and paid options. The free option only allows timers up to 30 days so, if you have an event outside of that, you need a paid plan to use it. Easy to use. Must sign up to get embed code.

Adding Your Timer

Once you've selected a timer to add, how do you get it up and running? Well, it's very easy on your Strikingly site and is done through the 'Embed an App' option in the 'App Store & HTML' section.

Steps:

  1. Add New Section
  2. Select 'App Store & HTML'. This adds the 'Embed an App' section on your site.
  3. Click to Explore the App Store
  4. Select 'HTML'
  5. Copy and paste the code in the section provided. You may need to tick 'show in iframe' just below where you paste it if the formatting doesn't look right. 
That's it! Easy, peasy.
